1. The kids are busy learning, they are actively engaged in what they are doing. I am moving throughout the classroom, interacting with each of my kids.
2. I would try to talk to calmly with them, not pointing fingers or making accusations about them or their child. I would let them have their input, however I would remain firm while still taking their perspective into account of my own.
3. The students and teacher need to be actively involved in the learning process. It is important for every child's needs to be met so each one has the opportunity to learn.
4. One unit I was especially proud of was one I did based off of a novel read for the class. I included an array of lesson types: from individual reading to presentations and group work to character studies and even included an emphasis on technology; I think it was well-directed for my students and encompassed all their learning styles and needs.
5. I strive to be a part of every student's life who enters my classroom; both educating and in their real lives. It is my goal to make my students life-long learners and I believe this can be done by showing and sharing, not just by instructing.
6. The responsibility of learning needs to be shared among the teacher and student, and if possible, the student's family. A child cannot learn without experience and opportunity, and a teacher cannot develop a learner without a student there to learn.
7. We come up with a set of guidelines as a class to follow at the beginning of the year. When this falters, I have a variety of approaches depending on the student and the situation; from taking time to talk, setting up a rewards system, contacting parents, usually for repeat or serious infractions, independent studies, or even just taking time for a "breather."
8. A truly outstanding teacher cares about her students, making sure they are really learning and not just retaining information or staying aware of home-life or personal problems. A truly outstanding teacher will go beyond the curriculum to assure every student experiences a meaningful and solid experience.
9. I will help my students to develop as 21st Century Learners by integrating a variety of technology into our everyday lessons. I will also encourage feedback for my students rather than just criticism.
10. I would make sure that each student had an understanding of what we were doing and work them through any struggles, I would include any alterations necessary to embrace the learning styles or needs of my students. Also, I would act as a support system and encourage my students during their struggles and triumphs.
11. My two top strengths are that I work very hard to include every child at all times and that I always strive to go above and beyond to share with my students a joy for learning. My two greatest weaknesses would be that I do not yet have a lot of experience and that I find it significantly more difficult to focus on seeking disciplinary measures than to dole out encouragement and positive support.
12. In order to do this, I do not want my students simply filling out an answer sheet, i want them to truly think about what they have learned and apply it to real scenarios. This could be explanations, comparisons or analyzing; I just want to see that my students know what they are talking about and not just feeding back to me what I have shared with them.
13. I will work with the student, his or her parents, guidance from the school, and authority from the school if necessary. It is important to me that every student succeeds; changes can be made in the classroom to accommodate the student without negatively impacting the others, we can focus on home-life if necessary, work to seek additional help in the student's stuidies, and ultimately drive to find if there is anything else impacting the student's ability to succeed and do our best to eliminate the cause.
14. Technology is very important in my teaching because I believe that it really opens up the opportunities my students have in their learning, there is just so much out there. I include technology in many of my lessons and everyday classwork so that my students are exposed to it frequently and can develop their abilities as they are brought up as 21st Century Learners.
15. I am here to make a difference in every child's life that I come across, I want to instill in them a shared love of learning and help them along their way to become life-long learners. Education is my passion and I am very enthusiastic about becoming involved in what this school has to offer this generation of children.
